Is HDB “a little over the top” over cat issue?
A Facebook post put up by Mr Alfredo Seow has certainly rubbed one too many people the wrong (or right) way, depending on which side of the argument you are on.
On 7 January, Mr Seow put up a Facebook post, saying “OK, a little over the top don’t you think?”
He added that the letter belonged to a friend and was not one which he had received.
In brief, the Housing and Development Board (HDB) through its Estate Manager for Woodlands Branch Lucas Lee sent a note to a resident stating that under HDB policy, “keeping of cat in HDB flats is strictly prohibited”.
He further added in the letter that “cat-related nuisance such as shedding of fur, defecation in public areas and noise disturbance can disrupt the estate’s living environment.”
The post generated more than 2000 shares and more than 1,000 comments.
Even former Nominated Member of Parliament Calvin Cheng, shared his views.
He said: “HDB’s reading is faulty an exposes a poor understanding of cats (and dogs).”
The Cat Welfare Society has also responded and said that “many people are angry” and “masks the real conversation that people need to be having.”
