There could possibly be a battle to take over the reins of the Football Association of Singapore.
On 31 March before the deadline for all submissions, a team led by Balestier Khalsa vice-chairman Darwin Jalil called “Football First” handed in their forms to signal their intent on challenging Lion City Sailors owner Forrest Li for the seats of power at the national football body.
The decision was made after much deliberation, and to ensure that the was adequate representation from among the rank and file of the affiliate base.
Among the candidates on the slate are former Lions S Subramani, Ho Kwang Hock and Vice-President of SGX Group Ion Danker.
Jalil said that he could not provide any further comments apart from confirming that their papers had been submitted for the slate ahead of the deadline.
“We will now need to wait for the electoral committee to confirm the eligibility of all our candidates,” he said.
It is also understood that Woodlands Lions chairman R Vengadasalam is also coordinating as an advisor to the team.
In an earlier statement issued by the FAS, the national body said that the following individuals have been voted on 25 September 2021 to form the Electoral Committee:
- Ng Yong Ern, Raymond, Chairperson of the Electoral Committee;
- Krishna Ramakrishna Sharma, Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Committee;
