In a bold move that proves football is more than just a game, Lion City Sailors FC (LCS) and Công An Hà Nội FC (CAHN FC) are teaming up to create a football moment unlike any other.

The announcement came on the back of Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s official visit to Hanoi, with both clubs preparing to square off in an international friendly match sometime in 2025.

Mark your calendars, this will be no ordinary friendly.

The timing of the match couldn’t be more fitting.

Singapore will be celebrating its 60th year of independence, while Vietnam marks its 80th.

This isn’t just about football or national pride, it’s about deepening the ties between two nations whose relations just got a major upgrade, moving to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership earlier this month.

Football, as always, becomes the vehicle for that diplomatic message.

“Football has the power to unite people across borders, and we are thrilled to work with Công An Hà Nội FC to mark these historic national milestones.”

“This match will not only showcase top-tier footballing talent but also celebrate the enduring ties between Singapore and Vietnam,” said the Chairman of LCS, Forrest Li.

It’s almost poetic, isn’t it?

Football, in its purest form, transcends borders and this match will certainly be one for the books.

Major General Dương Đức Hải, Chairman of CAHN FC, is equally enthusiastic.

“Sport has always played a crucial role in strengthening bilateral relations, and this friendly match is a fitting tribute to the strong and growing friendship between our two countries,” he added.

Details about the date and venue of the match will be revealed later, but one thing is clear: this isn’t just another exhibition game.

It’s a momentous event that transcends sports, sending a message about the power of football to bring countries closer together.
