Both Singapore’s men’s and women’s national hockey sides have started off with victories at the EW Barker Cup and the Annabel Pennefather Cup respectively.

The competitions are ongoing at the Sengkang Hockey Stadium with the finals being held on Sunday.

For the men’s side, Singapore sit at the top of the table after the first day following a well deserved 3-1 win over Hong Kong.

A penalty corner goal from Ashriq Zul’Kepli put Singapore ahead, before a superb field goal from Silas Noor made it 2-0.

A defensive error allowed Windfall Monthong to reduce Singapore’s advantage, but an Ashriq penalty stroke made it 3-1, a lead that Singapore held to the end of the match.

Singapore women’s team also notched a win but they left it late to claim a well-deserved 2-1 win over Chinese-Taipei in the Annabel Pennefather Cup.

A Val Sim goal put Singapore ahead in the first half.

Huang Yi-Chun equalised for Chinese-Taipei in the second half before a Hajaritih Johana goal in the 58th minute sealed the win for Singapore.

The matches at Sengkang continue today.
