For their fifth anniversary of their inauguration, the Lion City Sailors have officially introduced their first-ever club mascot, Helix.
Taking inspiration from the Greek meaning of ‘Helix’, a curve leading to new discoveries, the mascot embodies the values of pioneership, courage, and resilience.
Now, Helix is not your cuddly mascot.
The lion has a tear along his ear that leads to an X-shaped scar on his face, battle marks from a stormy sea adventure.
Proving that tough times make even tougher Sailors!
Helix is here to inspire everyone to brave the unknown, tackle challenges head-on, and wear that Singaporean pride loud and proud.
The Sailors masterminded Helix’s creation, a fitting gift as they celebrated turning five on 14 February.
Making a grand entrance at Jalan Besar Stadium on 20 February, Helix roared into action just in time to watch the Sailors thrash Thailand’s Muangthong United 4-0.
That victory sealed a 7-2 aggregate win, making history as the club sailed into the quarter-finals of the Asian Football Confederation Champions League (ACL) Two.
“A mascot is key to a football club’s identity. It’s something the club has considered for a long time, but it was equally important that this process was carefully thought through and curated,” said Lion City Sailors General Manager Tan Li Yu.
Helix was created to enhance the matchday experience, bringing excitement and lasting memories for fans.
Now an integral part of the club’s DNA, he will play a key role in helping the team strive to be the pride of Singapore.
Helix’s got a full calendar ahead, rallying fans at every home game, hanging out at community events, school visits, and even lending a paw to charity initiatives.
Hot on the heels of the club’s recently released anthem, Champions in Blue, Helix’s arrival is yet another bold step in the Sailors’ quest to build a lasting legacy and a fanbase that bleeds blue.
Get ready, because this lion is just getting started!
