4 gold medals for Singapore’s young table tennis players from SEA Youth Table Tennis Championships.

Singapore ended the Southeast Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships in Kuala Lumpur competition with four Golds, two Silvers and seven Bronzes, with rising star Loy Ming Ying, 13, leading the team with three gold medals.

The paddlers concluded the competition on 16 May with a silver and four bronzes from the Singles events.

The silver medal came from Nicholas Tan in the Boys U19 Singles, after he was beaten 4-1 by Vietnam’s Nguyen Duy Phong in the final, 11-7, 8-11, 7-11, 8-11, 6-11.

Singapore’s Loy Xing Yao and Yang Ze Yi finished joint-3rd in the same event, with Loy having lost to Tan, 4-1, in an all-Singapore semifinal, while Nguyen beat Yang in the other semifinal 4-0.

There were also bronzes for Tan Zhao Yun and Janelle Chiang in the Girls U19 and U15 Singles respectively, after both players fell to Thai opposition in their respective semifinals.

Tan could not find a way past Wirakarn Tanyapitak, going down 4-0 in straight sets, 7-11, 5-11, 6-11, 10-12, while Chiang ended up on the wrong end of a seven-set thriller to Kulapassr Vijitvirayagul, 6-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-5, 11-9, 5-11, 3-11.
