7-0 aside, there are lots of other issues to fix for Singapore football.

Jun 7, 2024 ,

Losing 0-7 at home at the National Stadium must surely rank as one of the worst experiences for a Singapore football fan.

But equally as important, are the signals being thrown out by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS).

These signals have already elicited responses, and some which emanated from the stands in the National Stadium, and others online.

First, the reactions to the match.

National coach Tsutomu Ogura rightfully apologised to the fans for how his charges responded to the almost 50,000 fans who had turned up.

“I apologise to the Singapore football fans,” he said in responses carried in The Straits Times.

“So many people came today to watch the game but we could not show our football.”

“Of course, Korea was a different class.

“We need to move on to our next game and we should never give up and we must try to have much more improvement.”

Ogura, hired to take over predecessor Takayuki Nishigaya, is still winless after three matches.

WAS THIS A KPOP CONCERT?

Fans wondered by Korean music were blaring, which actually led to fans booing during half time.

Gangnam Style. Really?

Several online posts began surfacing about this.

Why are we giving the visitors a chance to feel at home?

Are we that hospitable?

Let’s see if the Thais play Count on Me Singapore when the team plays in Bangkok next.

THE ISSUE OF THE LIONS JERSEYS

There were fans seen wearing the red of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool jerseys.

They should not be faulted for trying to wear red, to support the home team.

Leading up to the match, fans were left wondering where they could buy the Lions jerseys.

Well, they could not because none of the red was left in stock.

And while the new NIKE jerseys were ready to be launched, the national body allegedly chose not to launch it ahead of the match against Korea Republic.

It needs to explain why, and why it chose to wait for a much later date to launch, especially when it already had the information that the match versus Korea Republic was going to be played to a full National Stadium.

That local retailer Weston was crucified online for selling a special edition Korea Republic match commemorative jersey is misguided, and unfair.

The FAS needs to explain why it has apparently chosen to wait till a later part of the year to launch its new kit, when the stocks are already ready for unveiling, and sales.

MATCH VERSUS THAILAND

To finish off, has the FAS shared with Singapore fans how they can purchase tickets for the upcoming match against Thailand?

Does it really bother about fans who are already in Bangkok for the school holidays, or those who are perhaps aiming to fly up to support the Lions?

The answer is obvious.
