Lions end the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with 1 point and 0 wins.

Jun 11, 2024 ,

Singapore’s 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign ended with yet another defeat, this time to Thailand by 3-1 at the Rajamangala Stadium on 11 June.

The Lions ended the campaign with just one draw – a 2-2 against China at the National Stadium in March.

The only scalp which the Lions can claim from the 3-1 loss to their Thai rivals was that an Ikhsan-Fandi goal prevented the War Elephants from making the next round.

The BG Pathum forward, who will not be a favourite among his Thai team-mates when the league begins, unleashed a terror of a shot which for a while gave the Lions some hope, with the goal coming against the general flow.

The Thais kept pounding at the Singapore goal in search of that all important goal which would have pipped China to second spot.

That goal did not arrive, unfortunately.

Indonesia are the only Southeast Asian side to have qualified for the next stage of competition.
