A quick background.

On 11 May, following Singapore’s 7-0 loss to Malaysia in a Group B Southeast Asian Games match, Tan left this comment.

At this point when this comment was made, his Instagram account was still public.

As more fans began to call him out over what looked like thuggish behaviour, he subsequently disabled all comments, before turning the account private.

The post was also carried on Lions fan group SingaBrigade’s Facebook page.

The former Brigadier-General, who is now the Country Manager of Indonesian conglomerate Sinar Mas, also left the word “sorry” on his bio.

TMSG was sent a copy of his Instagram apology by one of his current followers, with the story of the apology already being carried on CNA.
