A Singapore Football League footballer from Singapore Khalsa Association is understood to currently be on life support after allegedly suffering a seizure during a pre-season trip in Kuala Lumpur over the weekend.

He was a member of the Singapore Khalsa Association side which won the Singapore Football League 1 championship in 2022.

It is understood that the 25-year-old player – Karthik Raj – is currently on life support systems at the Singapore General Hospital and is fighting for his life.

Details of what transpired while the team was in Kuala Lumpur is still spotty, with differing accounts.

One WhatsApp message seen by TMSG indicated that the player suffered a seizure while he was swimming and almost drowned.

Another account from the player’s friend indicates that he suffered a seizure while the team was in limbering.

One thing is clear – that the player had suffered a seizure, which then points to a more pertinent question.

Was the club in question aware that the player had a history of having seizures?

Transfermarkt lists Karthik as a former National Football Academy U17 and U18 player in 2015 and 2016, who also spent a season in Hougang United and Balestier Khalsa.

A football official from another local club who was aware of the incident said that it was tragic.

It is not known how the player was transported back to Singapore.

TMSG has reached out to Singapore Khalsa Association’s football administrators through the email on its Facebook page and will update this story when we get a response.
