Geylang International’s livewire Vincent Bezecourt has suffered a knee injury which could well leave him out of action for a period of time.

The extent of the damage is still unknown as the player is understood to be undergoing a scan on his left knee.

This was later confirmed by Geylang International coach Mohd Noor Ali.

The forward who has scored seven goals for the Eagles so far this season, injured his knee at the Our Tampines Hub (OTH) during the club’s eastern derby clash against Tampines Rovers in the 22nd minute.

He was seen raising his arm when he was on the pitch, seeking medical help.

He was subsequently allowed back into the field only to be stretchered off a few minutes later.

Bezecourt is the latest footballer to suffer knee damage while playing at OTH.

In April, Tampines Rovers’ Amirul Haikal also suffered a knee injury, which left Stags and national midfielder Saifullah Akbar referring to football fields in Singapore as “rubbish turf pitches”.

Other players in Singapore who have suffered knee injuries as a result of playing on the artificial turf include Ikhsan Fandi, Ilhan Fandi and Adam Swandi.

In April, the OTH pitch was declared unsafe for play following an international 7-a-side tournament.

Back then, Noor Ali said that he was worried about the risk the pitch poses to players.

According to OTH management, the pitch was last returfed in 2017 and will be returfed in 2024 as part of its cyclical maintenance programme.

OTH is a community facility which is owned and managed by People’s Association.
