Parents of children who are involved in the soon to begin Singapore Youth League (SYL) are up in arms after discovering that teams which play at the Singapore Sports School will allegedly not be allowed to watch their children in action.

The SYL is due to begin on 24 February and the Singapore Sports School is among the venues being utilised for the classification stage of the competition, specifically for the U13 competition.

TMSG understands that the information about parents not being allowed access to the Singapore Sports School to watch matches due to the school’s policy was relayed to participating clubs at the managers meeting held on 19 February.

Aside from the Sports School team, other teams impacted include Woodlands Lions, Pasirian Lions, Hougang United and Tanjong Pagar United.

A parent of a player from Woodlands Lions who spoke to TMSG said that it’s almost unbelievable that parents would not be allowed to watch their children play when they play matches at the Singapore Sports School.

“I thought parents” support is an important part of the journey for young athletes,” said the father who spoke on condition of anonymity.

“If so, why is Sports School closed to parents?”

Also, if it was already understood that the Singapore Sports School barred outsiders as spectators, then why was the venue selected to host matches for the Singapore Youth League?

Another official who spoke to TMSG, who was aware of this issue, asked why action was not taken to seek a solution.

One of it would have been to strike out Singapore Sports School as a venue.

Another possible alternative to assuage the feelings of angry parents would have been to get the matches being played at the Singapore Sports School streamed live for parents to follow.

That could have been done by a company like 1 Play Sports, which has been providing such solutions for certain national sports associations competitions.

“There is an issue, and it needs to be dealt with urgently before it explodes in people’s faces,” added the official.
