Void deck is blocked off to stop kids from playing football in Woodlands. Too extreme, says resident.

Nov 23, 2023 ,

A resident of Block 638 Woodlands Ring Road has expressed his unhappiness over the Sembawang Town Council’s actions aimed at stopping young footballers from playing the game in the void deck of the block.

The netizen, who wrote to TMSG said that it was “ridiculous” that the Town Council has blocked off a substantial area at the void deck just because there were children playing football at the void deck.

He also posted an Instagram story about the void deck closure and showed a notice which had been put up by the Town Council to explain the closure.

The notice which was dated 3 November, stated that the “feedback provider has requested Town Council to follow up” on the issue of “school children kicking ball and shouting while playing” and “creating noise nuisance” at the void deck of the block.

The notice added that “No Ball Game” signages had been put up previously to “educate the school children” and that “Town Council officer and Zone 8 grassroot leaders had also advised them but they still continue to play.”

However, the resident of the block felt that it was unnecessary for the Town Council to have reacted to harshly, especially it was just a bunch of kids playing football.

“It is just a boys who are playing football from the school nearby,” he said.

Spectra Secondary School is just directly opposite the block where the void deck has been baricaded.

“Does the Town Council and grassroots rather that the boys end up doing things which are illegal instead and end up falling into the wrong company?”

“The boys are just playing football.”

While football has been stopped, the Town Council added that the space could still be used for weddings and funerals.
