Two youth coaches from Balestier Khalsa and Lion City Sailors have been fined by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) after their shenanigans during and after a Singapore Youth League (SYL) match on 24 August.

Videos of the incident were first posted on TMSG on 25 and 27 August which showed players from both teams shoving one another during the match.

The second video posted on 27 August had Balestier coach Ali Imran Lomri having to be restrained by officials and his own players as he tried to confront the Sailors coach Jasni Hatta.

Both coaches were red-carded during the match.

The FAS told the Straits Times that both coaches “acted in a manner unbecoming of their roles as ambassadors of their respective clubs and the SYL”.

Both were slapped with a two-game ban for their dismissal, with Ali also getting a one-match suspension and a $500 fine “for his aggressive conduct and inappropriate reaction during the match.

Jasni also received a suspended $500 fine, for using “inappropriate language that contributed to the confrontation”.

An FAS spokesman told The Straits Times that it “takes such incidents very seriously, particularly within youth competitions, where players and officials are expected to serve as role models”.

As an organisation, we are committed to ensuring that professionalism and respect remain at the forefront of the sport, especially in competitions designed to nurture the next generation of football talent.”

Ali told the Straits Times that “in the spur of the moment, I snapped and made a big mistake which I’m not proud of.

“I am sorry and apologise to everyone for my reactions and I will not act like that in the future.”

Balestier vice-chairman Darwin Jalil has also added that Ali will face an additional $1000 fine for his actions.
