Singapore’s top men’s singles shuttlers, Loh Kean Yew and Jason Teh (main photo), are set to turn the German Open quarter-finals into a Singapore showdown on 28 February.
A first-ever Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour face-off between the duo.
The victories marked a significant result for Singapore badminton, with at least one local player now guaranteed a spot in the quarter-finals of the US$240,000 (S$323,000) Super 300 tournament.
Their journey to the last eight wasn’t exactly a walk in the park.
Both players had to dig deep and claw their way back from a game down against their Malaysian opponents.
World No. 15 Loh, still shaking off the dust from a rocky post-Olympics spell, battled to a 19-21, 21-13, 21-12 win over Cheam June Wei.
Not to be outdone, fifth seed Teh turned on the style in a nail-biting 18-21, 21-19, 21-12 victory against Justin Hoh, extending his perfect record in three-game matches this year to six wins.
The guaranteed semi-final berth for Singapore.
