Time to celebrate.

Jun 23, 2022

The latest world rankings by world football body FIFA have been released and Singapore is now in 159th spot.

No surprises there, given that the Lions have only won one competitive match ini 2022 – an inconsequential victory over Myanmar in the recently concluded 2023 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Myanmar, coincidentally, is ahead of Singapore in the standings.

Singapore did earn friendly victories over Malaysia and Philippines earlier in the year, which unfortunately has not prevented it from slipping a spot from 158th six months ago.

The latest rankings were posted on FIFA’s website on 23 June.

Iran is the top Asian side at 23 while Vietnam at 97 is ASEAN’s top dog.

Myanmar (158), Indonesia (155), Malaysia (147), Philippines (134) and Thailand (111) are all ahead of Singapore in the standings.

Among the countries below Singapore include the likes of Cambodia (174), Laos (183) and Brunei (190).

The Singapore football leadership should pat themselves on their backs for a job well done.
