Singapore’s national men’s hockey team lifted the inaugural E.W. Barker Cup at the Sengkang Hockey Stadium on 17 December, an event organised by the Singapore Hockey Federation, after a 4-3 penalty shootout win over Thailand.

The score was tied at 1-1 during regulation time.
Singapore’s Silas Noor gave the home fans plenty to cheer about when he gave Singapore a fifth-minute lead from a penalty corner.
But Thailand’s Nattapong Trisom equalised for the visitors in the 50th minute which then took the game into the sudden death.
Said national men’s coach Krishnan Vijayan Naidu, “After the high of winning the SEA Games silver and the low of losing all our Asian Games matches, I’m happy we can end the year on a high again.”
Unfortunately for the women’s national team, the young Lionesses were not able to get the better of Hong Kong after falling to a 3-2 loss in the penalty shootout.

The score was also tied 1-1 during regulation time.
The next major assignment for the team will be the Asian Hockey Federation Cup in 2024.
