A young Singaporean female basketball athlete has accused two coaches of abuse and some level of financial impropriety.
TMSG understands that the athlete has filed complaints with Sport Singapore and Safe Sport, highlighting her issues.
Given the nature of the allegations, TMSG will not publish the names of the parties involved, as advised.
We are also not aware at which stage is the investigation ongoing within the government agency.
We will refer to the coaches as Coach A and Coach B.
TMSG received details of the abuses through an email with the complaints which had been filed with the authorities.
In addition there is also an audio file which was attached with the email, in which the athlete recorded while squaring off with the coach who had allegedly imposed random fines on players, and subjected them to send the fines to her through direct transfers to her account.
In one of the reports filed, the athlete said that she had been “subjected to, and have directly observed repeated incidents of severe psychological abuse.”
“These actions have inflicted significant and lasting harm on the mental health and emotional well-being of athletes, eroding individual confidence and creating an environment marked by fear, mistrust, and emotional distress.”
The athlete added that “their conduct have not only violated fundamental principles of coaching ethics but has also contributed to the normalization of a toxic and damaging culture within the national basketball framework.”
Details of the abuse were also provided in the report.
Among the words allegedly used were:

In addition, there were also screenshots of WhatsApp conversations.
In one of the messages, one of the coaches sent a knife emoji.

An audio recording, which TMSG listened to, has the coach trying to justify the actions to the athlete.
“I think most of the things that I’ve said are just very factual, I am a very blunt person and I apologize for that.”
Part of the conversation in the audio file was as follows:
Athlete: “So very factual as in like you saying that you will shove a grenade down your throat, very factual as in you saying that you will want to stab someone in the throat if you have the knife, like that’s very factual?”
Coach: “So you do believe that I will kill you or that I really want to kill you?”
Athlete: “Well if you say it multiple times, then obviously, I will certainly have the rights to believe that.”
TMSG’s report is based on access to reports filed with the respective agencies and in conversations with the reporting athlete.
