Will Tengah FC be making a submission this year ?

Feb 6, 2025 ,

The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) is once again on the lookout for new clubs to join the Singapore Premier League (SPL), its statement has indicated.

With applications now open for the 2025/2026 season, both local and foreign teams are invited to throw their hats into the ring.

FAS has another chance to get it right, and for the sake of Singapore football, fans can only hope that this time, they don’t fumble the ball.

The football body conducted a similar exercise at the end of the 2023 SPL season, but no new clubs joined.

One club – Tengah FC – reportedly received in-principle approval but ultimately withdrew from the 2024/2025 season due to bureaucratic delays.

With only nine clubs in the SPL, FAS has repeatedly stated the need for expansion, citing a desire to bring in private and commercially driven football clubs.

“This increase will make for a more exciting SPL and provide greater avenues for Singaporean footballers to play the game at the highest level in Singapore,” said the association.

FAS is looking for clubs that can contribute to the league’s growth, improve the overall footballing landscape, and enhance the fan experience.

The selection process consists of three phases: application, evaluation, and renewal.

Clubs must submit comprehensive proposals covering ownership, financial stability, training facilities, player development—including women’s and youth squads—and fan engagement strategies.

Foreign clubs need to jump through extra hoops, like securing an endorsement letter from their home football associations.
