Top SGP Athletes set for first ever Flash Athletics Club International Meet.

One of Singapore’s most illustrious and recognized track and field clubs – Flash Athletics Club – will be celebrating its 50th anniversary by organizing an international track and field meet with many of Singapore’s best athletes involved over the weekend at the Bishan Stadium.

This is the first time in the club’s history that it is organizing an international meet.

The two-day event will be held on 4 and 5 August at the Bishan Stadium, and will be held just two weeks before the start of the Asian Games 2018 to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The event will be held from 6pm onwards at the Bishan Stadium on 4 and 5 August.

Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Flash-ActiveSG International Athletics Meet 2018 Malik Aljunied said, “The Meet 2018 is our way of getting Singaporeans excited about track and field just before the Asian Games 2018. We are looking forward to having them turn up the decibel at the Bishan Stadium over two days, and do look forward to having the public turn up to attend the event.”

Among Singapore’s track and field athletes participating in the event are Dipna Lim Prasad, Goh Chui Ling, Soh Rui Yong and Rachel Yang.

One of the key objectives of the Flash-ActiveSG International Athletics Meet 2018 is to help promote the sport of athletics in the region, and to also have the Singaporean sports community be excited by intense competition at the Bishan Stadium.

The meet also allows athletes to either represent their country or their clubs.

The various age categories which will be competed at the FLASH-ActiveSG International Athletics Meet 2018 are as follows:

  • U-11
  • U-13
  • U-20
  • Corporate
  • Open
  • International
  • Masters (40 to Over 70)

Flash Athletics Club President Edmond Pereira said that the Flash-ActiveSG International Athletics Meet 2018 will be one of the key events which the club is organising for its golden jubilee.

He said, “This is a special year for the club and we are doing our part to help raise the profile of track and field in Singapore, in our very own special ways.”

The meet is sanctioned by Singapore Athletics Association.

Admission to the event at the Bishan Stadium is free.
