Badri Ghent leaves Lion City Sailors and will be the new head honcho at the FAS.

There is a new general secretary at the Football Association of Singapore.

On 1 September, the Straits Times shared that its sources have confirmed that Badri Ghent has been appointed to lead the football body as its General Secretary.

The information had been floating around for a few weeks, after it was made known that changes were imminent.

Incumbent general secretary Chew Chun-Liang has resigned after only about 10 months on the job, having been hired by former President Bernard Tan.

Chew was the previous CEO of the Lion City Sailors from 2020 to 2022.

Badri has relinquished his role at the Lion City Sailors as its Sporting Director, and the move to take over the FAS as its general secretary will certainly set tongues wagging.

According to the Straits Times, Badri’s career began at Sport Singapore in 2010 before he moved on to the non-governmental organisation Singapore Environment Council.

He later joined Home United in 2014.

The move to hire Badri comes ahead of the FAS impending Congress.

Said FAS President Forrest Li in a statement posted by the football body, ““Badri has been involved in Singapore football for more than a decade and has a deep understanding of our local football ecosystem.

“His experience — from management roles at Home United to his leadership at Lion City Sailors — reflects his ability to raise standards and build strong structures.

“We are confident that his leadership as General Secretary will help us drive forward the Council’s priorities, strengthen the National Team, and elevate Singapore football in the years ahead.”
