One of Singapore’s opponents in the upcoming Suzuki Cup have signed a big name coach.
According to a report in the Straits Times which has been marked as a Premium content, the Philippines, also regarded as the Azkals, have taken on former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson for the next six months with a possible longer term stint on the cards.
The appointment will mean that Eriksson takes Philippines through the Asian Cup and the upcoming Suzuki Cup.
Singapore will face the Azkals in the island of Bacolod on 13 November.
With Singapore also having to face Indonesia and Thailand, it will be a miracle if Fandi Ahmad and his Lions get past the group stages.
Eriksson was England manager from 2001 to 2006 and also managed the national teams of Ivory Coast and Mexico.
He won 18 titles with a variety of clubs in Italy, Portugal and Sweden between 1979 to 2000.
