Singaporean diver Jonathan Chan has become the first ever Singaporean diver, as well as the first Singaporean athlete to qualify for the Olympics to be held in Tokyo in 2020.
Jonathan won the 10m Platform at the Asian Diving Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with a score of 407.90s.
He beat out China’s Wang Zewei (393.45s) and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s Ri Kwon Hyok (347.25s)
“I am speechless and still trying to let the reality sink in. I hope that I will be the first of many more divers to qualify. And to inspire my teammates to work towards qualification as well so that we can go together to Tokyo.”
Chan is a second-year student at the Singapore University of Technology and Design, and has previously won two silvers and three bronzes at the 2015 and 2017 SEA Games.
