Fandi Ahmad says sorry.

Dec 2, 2019

Singapore’s Young Lions coach at the Manila Southeast Asian Games Fandi Ahmad has apologised for his team and his failure to take the team out of the group stages into the semi-finals.

In comments to the Straits Times, Fandi said, “I am sorry we could not deliver a medal this time but I must repeat that it is no fault of the boys.

They have been fighters throughout all the tough times.”

After the defeat against Indonesia, Fandi had blamed Singapore’s poor state to the fact that Singapore did not have as much talent in football compared to our regional neighbours and had also added that many of his players were part-timers, students and national servicemen.

The Young Lions drew Laos and then lost to Indonesia and Thailand by 2-0 and 3-0 margins.

They also haven’t scored a single goal at all in the competition so far.

Singapore will play against Vietnam on 3 December before completing their group ties against Brunei on 5 December.
