The Young Lions ended the campaign without a single win to their name, a first since the 1987 SEA Games in Jakarta, when the finished the tournament bottom of the group after two draws against Malaysia and Myanmar.

They also finished right at the bottom of Group B, even lower than Laos.

At this current SEA Games in Cambodia, coach Philippe Aw’s boys also did not score a single goal on their own, having been gifted two own goals in the 3-1 defeats to both Thailand and Vietnam.

Fans were already reacting to the half time results, when the Young Lions were down 2-0.

“Nothing surprising here. Only if we pick up a win then it really surprised. Think most of us have already get use to this feeling,” quipped one netizen on the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Facebook post.

“Sg Lions Very consistent in losing,” said another fan while others also chimed in with sarcastic remarks like “incredible result” and “carry on the good work.”

The Young Lions had already been eliminated from the men’s competition after not being able to beat Laos in their previous match, and the tie against Malaysia was indeed a dead rubber match.

Malaysia has also been eliminated from the competition despite their victory against Singapore.

Singapore’s Young Lions have not made the semi-finals of the SEA Games football competition since 2013.

An embarrassing state of affairs for Singapore football.
