Singapore’s ‘A” International match against Papua New Guinea has been postponed by a day because the visitors could not travel to Singapore as scheduled, said the Football Association of Singapore in a statement.

On 14 June, the FAS said that the friendly fixture will be postponed to Friday, 16 June 2023.

Kickoff time will remain unchanged at 7.30pm.

The match was originally scheduled to take place on Thursday, 15 June.

The FAS said that the match fixture needed to be postponed as Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) notified the FAS on 14 June that they were “unable to travel to Singapore as planned”.

The players and team officials were due to arrive on Tuesday, 13 June but were informed by their national airline carrier, Air Niugini, that their flight had been cancelled.

“As Air Niugini does not have daily flights to Singapore, efforts were made to get the squad on alternate flights, however this ultimately was not possible,” said the FAS in its statement.

PNGFA have since confirmed that they will arrive in Singapore late Thursday evening, 15 June.

Both the President and Acting General Secretary of PNGFA have reached out to the FAS to express their regret and apologised to both the FAS and the Singapore football fans “for the unfortunate turn of events”.

The FAS said in its statement that it “expresses its sincere regret to fans for any inconvenience caused as a result of this postponement”.

“While every effort was made by both associations to ensure the original fixture would proceed as scheduled, the circumstances of limited flight availabilities from PNG inevitably dictated the need for the game to be rescheduled,” the statement read.
