Singapore qualifies for World Cup. Calm down. In Netball.

Sep 10, 2018

What their male counterparts in football have not done, Singapore’s netballers have done. Again.

Despite going down 69-50 to Sri Lanka in the M1 Asian Netball Championship on 9 September, Singapore’s netball ladies qualified for the Netball World Cup after finishing runners-up.

The event was held at the Singapore Sports Hub from 1 to 9 September.

While the Sri Lankans’ height proved a handful for Singapore, they did enough to secure a spot in the Netball World Cup which will be held in Liverpool in 2019.

It was Sri Lanka’s first Asian title since 2009.

At the last Netball World Cup in 2015, Singapore finished in 15th spot, ahead of Sri Lanka.

Singapore hosted the Netball World Cup twice previously – in 1983 and again in 2011.
