The Chiam See Tong Sports Fund (CSTSF) is aiming to raise at least $200,000 from its Gala Dinner which will be held on 22 August 2019 at the Marriott Tang Plaza.

The Guest of Honour for the Gala Dinner 2019 will be Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the CSTSF Ang Peng Siong said that Gala Dinner will be a meaningful one, and is looking forward to a gathering among friends and supporters of sports in Singapore.

He said: “We are truly honoured to have ESM Goh Chok Tong join us and help us raise funds for the Chiam See Tong Sports Fund. Our role is to help as many young Singaporean athletes as possible fulfil their dreams of becoming champions and be our national heroes.”

Since its inauguration in March 2017, the CSTSF has assisted more than 30 young athletes. Some of these include modern pentathlete Kok Kiat Xuan, sailor Olivia Chen and powerlifter Matthew Yap among many others.

The CSTSF raised about $150,000 at the last fundraising dinner held in August 2017, in which world-renowned rugby referee Nigel Owens attended as Guest of Honour.

Chairman of the Organising Committee of the CSTSF Gala Dinner 2019 Jose Raymond added that the aim this year is to raise more than the amount garnered in 2017.

He said: “ESM Goh Chok Tong’s presence is humbling for us as a very new charity on the block, and we will do our part to pay it forward through the contribution made by all our partners. We do look forward to getting the support of all our friends, and hope to see all our 50 tables filled up for the dinner event on 22 August 2019.”

Apart from the dinner, the CSTSF will also raise money through an auction which will be conducted on the night. As of 30 June 2019, the CSTSF has received notable items for auction.

Two items which will be up for auction include a Liverpool jersey signed off by Sir Kenny Dalglish and a FC Barcelona jersey signed by Argentina legend Lionel Messi which were both donated by former Nominated Member of Parliament Zulkifli Baharudin.

He said: “Chiam See Tong is a friend, and I am proud to help out in whatever way I can to support the CSTSF and its noble cause.”
