A team led by lawyer Edmond Pereira has submitted its nomination forms in preparation for the elections for office bearers at the Singapore Athletic Association to be held on 25 September.

All forms were submitted ahead of deadline on 15 September.
“We have a diverse team with professionals with skillsets which are necessary for the development of track and field in Singapore and to move the sport to greater heights,” said Mr Pereira.
In addition to the team of nine, former national sprinter UK Shyam and Chan Mun Wei, a former Director of Sports of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, will be supporting the team through the various committees which have been set up.
Apart from his time at the Ministry, Mr Chan was also a director of corporate planning at Sentosa and is a Regional Director of Giga Asia, a consultancy which helps companies with sustainability strategies.
Said Ang Peng Siong, Olympian and a candidate for Vice-President of Training and Selection, “Mun Wei brings a wealth of experience to the table for this team. His knowledge of governance and sports development will help us in our vision to propel the sport of track and field in Singapore.”
Also on the team of nine is Fahmy Raimi, Chief Marketing Officer of digital marketing firm RAWR Global. With events management expertise under his belt as well, Fahmy has pledged to digitalise the services rendered by Singapore Athletics such that its portal becomes a one-stop shop for all matters relating to track and field.
“There is a lot of scope to develop and use of the digital space for track and field, including live streaming of events. Enhancement of social engagement will also help open new doors and opportunities, merging offline with online to drive growth. It will become my personal project on a pro bono basis to modernise the face of Singapore Athletics through the upgrading of the portal.”
The team has also announced that it will be providing fiscal support to the Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) to assist in the organisation of the annual Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic track and field meet.
The responsibility to assist with fundraising falls on Gerald Kua, currently a banker from Credit Suisse who is involved with various corporates and charitable foundations. He hopes to catalyse synergies between them and Singapore Athletics with active sponsorships and exposure for athletes. He is also working towards raising up to $1million in sponsorships for Singapore Athletics.
“We have already spoken to a few corporates, in particular a European MNC which is keen to support us with funding as well as sponsorship of track and field jerseys. It is through this support which we will receive that we will be able to roll out programmes to support our athletes, work closely with our affiliates and also aim to organise a few major events in Singapore over the next few years to help raise the profile of track and field at all levels.”
The team will also be releasing its content through its Facebook page leading up to the elections.
