FAS men in black wear Warrix. Like Thai national team.
The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has signed a three-year partnership with Warrix Sport Sdn. Bhd. to provide all FAS-registered referees with a uniform attire.
Under the partnership with Warrix, all FAS-registered referees from Singapore Premier League referees to FAS Class 3 referees will don Warrix apparel to officiate FAS-sanctioned matches for the domestic football season from 2019 – 2021.
FAS Referee Assessors and Instructors will similarly wear Warrix attire when they conduct their official duties.
Warrix, a Thai-brand, also outfits the Thai national team.
FAS President Mr Lim Kia Tong said: “It is important to us to continue to aim for and reach higher standards in our Beautiful Game.
“Match officials are a vital component of the game and we are delighted that Warrix shares our vision and is on board with us in this partnership.
“We have also looked into the progression of our local referees. By introducing more learning opportunities and ensuring a clear development pathway, we hope to bring more referees into the fold and expand our pool of officials.”
There was no mention in the release about what these learning opportunities and development pathways entailed and how the FAS were hoping to expand its pool of officials though.
Warrix Sport Sdn. Bhd. Managing Director Mr George Lo said: “We need to aim and reach for higher standards in our beautiful game.
“FIFA referee Bjorn Kuipers once said the key to success in refereeing is confidence. Warrix also presses for the important factor of confidence in match official attire.
“We want the match officials to feel comfortable in what they are wearing, and to feel assured that they look good. With that, they will be confident not only in terms of their apparel but also in terms of their knowledge of the Laws of the game. They will then make more assured refereeing decisions, and raise the standards.”
Referees Fitness Instructor M. Ganesan said: “We are constantly looking to raise the local refereeing standards and it is great to have a brand such as Warrix Sport Malaysia coming on board and sharing our vision for a higher level of professionalism.
“To us, this speaks volumes about how much referees and the referee community is valued. My appreciation to FAS and Warrix Sport Malaysia for the sponsorship of the apparel and I look forward to training our referees to continue to put up good performances throughout the football season.”
